Sometimes I worry about having a daughter, a little girl who potentially will have to face all the crap regarding body image and size and weight and beauty standards that I did, but tenfold due to the even greater prevalence of media today. These two short films from Dove made me cry, because they encapsulate that.

"Onslaught"

"Daughters"

Hi Jana, I followed you here from your comment at Sweet Juniper. The neighborhood I grew up in was in Kalamazoo, and it sounds like your husband grew up in Grand Rapids? Amazing, I never knew there two Velvet Touches.

Your daughter is adorable beyond belief. She looks a little younger than my guy, who's two and a few months.

Hey, Jana--I saw this book yesterday in the bookstore and thought about your post:

Packaging Girlhood: Rescuing our Daughters from Marketers'
Schemes, by Sharon Lamb and Lyn Mikel Brown

It looks interesting, if disturbing.
